Heirloom Linens on display
Appalachian Arts Center is currently showcasing vintage linens in an exhibition entitled Family Linen. The exhibit features hand made family heirlooms contributed by the local community and includes tatting, silk and velvet crazy quilts, home loomed bed clothes circa 1870, a funeral ribbon quilt, crewel work wall hangings, christening gowns circa 1900, hand embroidered table linens, Ukrainian cross- stitch and more! Inspired by bestselling novelist Lee Smith’s book of the same title, Family Linen opened in June with a reception and book signing by Smith. The exhibit’s opening was held in conjunction with the third annual Appalachian Heritage Writer’s Symposium, for which Smith gave the keynote address.
